Ok so school is out and I’m already starting to feel stressed about how I can get my usual workload done with the kids about.

All the juggling and the new routine we’re going to have to adopt, keep the children entertained is already having a huge impact.

I live up North, 300 miles away from my network of family and friends, so very rarely is there someone on hand to take the kids for a day out so that I can catch up, so I have adopted a few strategies so that I can stay on top of client work.

There are many ways to increase productivity, no matter what business you run, below are my tips that will help you be more productive with the time you have:

Work in the morning
Waking up an hour or two before everyone else means you can get your day planned out and get ahead of your workload. It will be quiet, and you’ll be fresh and full of energy (ok maybe you’ll need a strong coffee first) so you can get quite a lot done.

Remove distractions
Removing distractions is the best way to gain momentum and to stay focused throughout your day. If you’re working from home (as I do) and plan to set aside a couple of hours when the kids will watch a film. for example, don’t get distracted by personal phone calls,
social media or housework – just get your head down and stay focused and you’ll soon see the results.

Outsource
If you really need a hand with the time-consuming elements of your business that are not core to what you do – or even if you have tasks that you don’t like doing, sometimes these are a distraction and lower productivity, then pay someone else to do it for you.

When you outsource your work, you give someone else the responsibility for certain areas of work, making it possible to spend time with your family.

Relax
If you really want to increase productivity, take a break every so often. Information overload or thinking about the amount of work you have to do with the kids around will only cloud the mind and make you feel as though it’s impossible to achieve or don’t have the time to do it.

Avoid struggling during those times that you lack focus, take a break and come back to it later.

Set your client’s expectations
Of course, the most important thing. Let your clients know that you have children at home and re-evaluate deadlines so that you can achieve realistic end dates.
