Building a business is definitely not a task for the faint hearted. You pretty much sacrifice your life, your time, your social life…. You have a goal and a big vision for creating a life that will give you financial freedom, security and allow you to spend more time with your family.. END GOAL
BUT… whilst you’re doing this you need a LOT from the people around you, most importantly your spouse.
Who you surround yourself with has a major impact on how productive you’ll be, the opportunities that you are able to take, events you can attend.
Having a supportive partner in all this can honestly be the make or break of your business.
And I am talking from experience.
Regardless of the number of awards you’re piling on your office shelf, regardless of the ‘celebrity guru’ business owners you’re working with, regardless of how many people in your community sing your praises, you STILL only listen to those negative words by one person. This in turn eats away at your mindset, that it really has a huge impact on how you show up in your business.
It stops you from showing up on Facebook lives, maybe your dream of becoming a speaker, maybe the leader in your field. Because the one person who should support you more than anyone else, thinks that everyone else ‘just got lucky’ and you’ve no chance in making it. So, you’re constantly told to go and ‘get a real job’.
So, what do you do if you are stuck with an unsupportive partner and you’re trying to build a successful business as a Female Entrepreneur?
Far from telling him to F*CK off…..
Ask yourself, is this the right relationship for you?
Scary huh? I should have seen the signs many many years ago… truly. BUT I stuck in with it for the kids.. as you do.
17 years married, 20 years together, we decided that it wasn’t worth it anymore… so May 2021 we decided to go our separate ways.
I’m not sure what stage your at in your current relationtion and hey, I’m not here to tell you to quit, and you know what is best in that area.
But what I don know is that for you to be the BEST VERSION OF YOU…. you need to surround yourself with people who truly believe and support you in your dreams.
This is something we stopped doing. I’d stick my head in my phone, working…. because you know my clients are all over the world… all time zones.
Actually, this was me hiding away from my problems. Knowing full well it was over, but making excuses not to speak my truth.
So, make time to talk through your issues.
Take the time to tell your partner what is going on in your business…. bring them in, make them part of it. Maybe ask them to help out.
If they have a better vision of your goals and aspirations, then maybe they can see your business through your eyes.
Take time for each other
We didn’t. Towards the end, we led such separate lives. We gave no time for each other. I can’t blame the business on that, but certainly I did use the business as a smoke screen to mask the inevitable.
So balance is definitely key if you want your partner to support you. You should work to live and not the other way around.
I know it’s so easy to submerge yourself in your work only to come out for a pee every few hours when your high energy and your passion for your latest project…..but this will only work if you have people who love you on your side supporting you, lifting you up when those negative thoughts creep in.
DON’T GIVE UP!
Here’s the thing. Making a relationship work is HARD. But it’s even harder when you are trying to build a business as a Female Entrepreneur.
You need to have someone in your corner who is 100% supportive of you or it will either fail, or you’ll constantly feel like you’re rolling an enormous truck up a hill with the hand break stuck on.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Is your spouse supportive of your dreams?
